The Wine Front: Campbell Mattinson

Rock of Wisdom Grenache 2021 Posted on 25 March 2022.  Barossa Valley Grenache, old vines, Koonunga sub-region I believe. This is very lovely. Bright and fragrant, sandy and gritty in a good way, blessed with fruit, floral and earth notes, and structured through the finish. I like it when you can almost feel the texture of the earth in the wine itself, even as it heads towards more silken territory. This is one such wine. There’s alcohol warmth here but it still feels lively. It’s good. It’s tasty and fine at once. Australian Wine Review: April 7, 2022: Andrew Graham

Rock of Wisdom Old Vine Grenache 2021 Updated packaging on these Rock of Wisdom wines, and they look a treat. Pete Hiscock said he’s been ‘tweaking and fine-tuning what we do in the winery’, and you can see it in the lively, affable, and well-formed low touch Barossan reds. This Grenache, along with the Shiraz below, are the high points. Sourced from an old vineyard in Light Pass, this is jubey, juicy, with no noticeable oak (9 months in 25% new), and has this combination of instant, black and red-fruited Grenache appeal, but with some old vine light and shade to add complexity. There’s this licoricey seam, along with a kaleidoscope of glacé raspberry, black jube, mulberry and more that...

The Vinsomniac: Stuart Robinson

Rock of Wisdom Grenache 2021 Old Vine Grenache, from Peter and Sofi Hiscock. There's a complexity here that combines a youthful aura married to the depth of flavour that old Vine material brings.  The fruit - raspberry, even a suggestion of blue - sings and works in tandem with that depth of flavour and pull of tannin. There's a throw of acidity that somehow belies its 14.5% Give it some time and air, for it then further reveals itself with something like chicory root character  bound up with burnt orange peel. It's a fascinating exercise in old Vine Grenache with a youthful vogue, interest factor is high. 92 Tasted on: Friday 4th March Rock of Wisdom Shiraz 2021 Possibly the most...

QWine Reviews: Steve Leszczynski

Sunday, 6 March 2022 Rock of Wisdom Old Vine Grenache 2021 A burger and fries or pizza night are covered with a large pour of this in your glass. Good gear from Rock of Wisdom. Petals, bountiful raspberries and handfuls of exotic spice get your attention early. Scratch the surface a little more to reveal a little boiled lollie character. Ripe, a warmth chases down that red fruit and it hangs. Time in the glass sees this move on and those raspberries shine some more. A big tick from me. Drink to three years. 90/100     Sunday, 20 March 2022 Rock of Wisdom Mataro 2021 Rock of Wisdom prides itself on minimal intervention small-batch wines. My first look at...
